Charlotte's Visit Part 3: Beach Hikes and Basketball.

Today we decided to have a nice little lie in and then head out for a long walk at the beach.

We used the Legion of Honor, the museum in the Presidio, as our starting point to find the Coastal Trail.

From there we walked down to the Sutro Baths ruins, old swimming baths which were all the rage with San Franciscans at the turn of the century. It's so strange because they look as though they could just as easily be Roman bath ruins!

From Sutro Baths, we walked past the Cliff House, onto the Great Highway and down to Ocean Beach.

Being on the warm sand made us a bit giddy!

Charlotte also wanted to have a paddle in the Pacific...

...but the tide came in a LOT quicker than anticipated!

Obviously, it was hard to drag her away.

But we had basketball to see!
A few weeks ago I got us tickets to see the Golden State Warriors playing the Chicago Bulls at the Oracle in  Oakland. Luckily I was just there so I knew how long it would take us to get across the bay!

The atmosphere was amazing - even in the nosebleed section. The Americans definitely do spectacle well! Cheerleaders, the National Anthem, half-time wedding proposals...the lot.

Basketball is also quite easy to understand for a novice. The game is played in 4 quarters, of 12 minutes each. Whoever gets the most baskets wins! Obviously there are more rules but it doesn't really matter as long as you get the gist.

Authentic fans!

The game is also a lot more fast-paced than other American sports, which we appreciated!

Charlotte watching very intently and eating her first churro:

Though the Warriors ended up losing 113-95 to the Bulls (who are, in fairness, a much better team), we still thoroughly enjoyed our first basketball game!
