How Weird Indeed!

Today we took a little study break (can't believe how quickly finals are approaching! Only one more month left on campus - boo) and went to the How Weird Street Faire on Howard Street downtown.

It was basically a big hippie alternative-type free festival with lots of electronic music stages and people dancing about in the street in very unusual outfits, to say the least!
Definitely one of those 'Only in San Francisco' moments!

Vicki was able to enjoy her newfound status as a 21-year old...

... which was definitely encouraged amongst this crowd!
Needless to say, it was hilarious.
We just danced alongside them and had a great time!

As the name might suggest, all of the weird people of San Francisco were out at the Faire in full force.

Including this pair! Definitely strange-looking to me.

Over The Past Week...

Aside from the BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS, here's some more of what I've been up to over the past week or so, taken from my Instagram (bethanyboagey).

1. Doing a bit of archery (or in our case, mostly chilling) in Golden Gate Park.
2. Finally bought a college sweatshirt - I'm a real SFSU student now!
3. Free movie night at Castro Theater with Josh.
4. Got some cowboy boots on eBay for $10 - bargain!
5. Sampling a Sushirrito from Vicki's new place of work.
6. Morning at the Contemporary Jewish Museum with Alex.
7. Sunset over our bonfire at Ocean Beach.
8. Some cool chalk on campus.
9. Baking for the Study Abroad Fair and feeling very British!

Birthday Girl Vicki.

She features on this blog a lot, but for her 21st birthday my roommate Vicki definitely deserves a post all to herself!

You might have already seen us at THE VAMPIRE WEEKEND SHOW on Wednesday, which was my present to her. That was just the beginning of the festivities!

On Saturday night we went out for pizza (where I forgot to take any photos) with all of our close friends, which was just lovely.

On Sunday, Vicki's actual birthday, I took her out for the day to the special Sunday picnic Off The Grid in the Presidio.

Where's Vicki?!

Our feast - Vegan hotdog from Rosamunde, Indian kati rolls from Kasa, lemon donuts from Streatery and strawberries from the farmer's market.

We were out the whole day, which gave everyone else time to set up her surprise party (at Morgan's apartment)!

All of my favourite San Francisco people!

On Monday night, we went out to our first Giants game of the season at AT&T Park.

It's weird to think one of the first things we all did together was GO TO A GIANTS GAME, and now we're back for Vicki's 21st!

It was a beautiful night - during the day it was nearly 30C, so it was still warm into the evening.

Wearing my Giants t-shirt!

For most of the game the Giants were down 4-2 to the Arizona Diamondbacks, but in the last two innings they managed to pull it back to a win of 4-5, thanks to Buster Posey and his home run!

Cheers all round!

It was truly a weekend of food, friends and fun.

Happy 21st Vicki -
I hope it was one to remember!

Vampire Weekend at the Fox.

For Vicki's birthday I bought her tickets to see Vampire Weekend - her actual birthday isn't for a couple of days, but I'm rubbish at surprises anyway so it was just as well!

It was at the Fox in Oakland, where I went TO SEE TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB last October.

We were standing, but we were able to get right to the front (literally, up to the barrier) thanks to our friend Keegan, who you may remember from THE VACCINES GIG I went to recently.
Clearly, he has great taste in music!

The band were great live - which is always a bonus!
They played some stuff from their new album, but also plenty of their old songs too. At the moment they're warming up for some of the big festivals in the summer, so they really give it their all!
My favourites were the opener 'Cousins', and also 'Holiday'. Vicki's favourite was 'Campus' - very appropriate!

I think it's safe to say she enjoyed it!

Look out for more on her birthday celebrations over the weekend!

Summer Travel Plans.

Now that Spring Break is truly over, I'm starting to think about what I want to do with my summer - I literally think from holiday to holiday!
Sorry parents, but it's only the truth.

After I get turfed out of my accommodation (one of the downsides to living on campus) on the 24th of May, I've got about 6 weeks left in the US.
My visa runs out on the 3rd of July, so I've got until then to explore some more of America.

Obviously, I don't HAVE to stay for the entire time - but wouldn't it be fun?!

By then, my room-mates will, fingers crossed, have a house here in the city so I can crash for a few days (honestly, I don't know how I'd cope without them - it would be a struggle to say the least!).
I'm sure I'll be tying up loose ends, getting rid of some of my stuff, etc.

Also in that time, I'd like to go up to Lake Tahoe, and see a bit more of the surrounding area - I don't know how I haven't been to Santa Cruz or Big Sur yet, because they're not far away at all!

After a week in San Francisco, my plan is to fly from SFO to Las Vegas on the 2nd of June to meet up with my best friend Rachel.
I'm also going to be 21 then, so I'm prepared for a full week of hilarity and partying with her in Vegas!

Re-living times from our NYC adventure in summer 2010, no doubt.

I also really really want to go to the Grand Canyon during this week - another thing to tick off my American Adventure list!

Excitingly, my room-mates are also looking at being in Vegas towards the end of that week.
Obviously, I think this would great - it'd be so nice to have one last celebration (for all of our birthdays) with them before we go our separate ways! We're still trying to work it out, but I hope it all goes to plan.

Afterwards, I'll probably end up coming back to San Francisco for one last time.

It'll be sad to leave such a great city, and all of the friends and memories I've made here.
But you never know, maybe I'll be back one day!

On the 20th of June, my lovely little sister Emi is finally able to fly out and join me in the States - since she didn't get to come to San Francisco with my family recently, I'm twice as excited to see her in the summer!

We're hoping to do long-ish trip, and our plan so far includes:

- Boston.

- New York.

- Niagara Falls.

- Toronto.

We're still working out the details, but we'll be trying to see plenty of things on a budget - no doubt we'll be using megabus and airbnb to our full advantage!
Once we've got everything finalised I'll definitely inform y'all.

Note: What terrible news about the recent bombings in Boston. Attacks like this happen far too often in America.
My thoughts are with everyone in the city of Boston.

Hiking Twin Peaks.

Today we took a break from essays and studying to hike Twin Peaks, which are, yes you guessed it, two of San Francisco's most famous hills.

It's quite a short walk (maybe about a mile), but once you get to the top you're rewarded with great views of the city.

Twin Peak's other peak.

Downtown SF.

It was also so very windy, causing us multiple hair malfunctions.

All good fun though!
