America's Cup.

The America's Cup is the biggest sailing event, in the world, ever, basically. And over this year and next year, the events are being held here in the San Francisco bay and marina!
This week is Fleet Week, and the America's Cup World Series is being held until Sunday, along with a series of fleet races.
Next September is when The actual America's Cup Finals are being held next September, so these are just the preliminary stages. Still pretty exciting!

The America's Cup Village is on Marina Green, over which the Blue Angels (the US version of the Red Arrows) were performing when we arrived.

After they'd finished (and the weather turned overcast), we headed to try and get a good spot on the marina to watch the sailing. Unfortunately most of our view was blocked by a jetty full of people, but the gist was (after having checked online) that the races we were watching were two of the quarterfinal races, the Swedish Artemis Red against Team USA Coutts, then our very own British boat, J.P. Morgan Bar, against Team USA Spithill.

Little did I know the skipper of the British boat (and what 'Bar' stands for, coincidentally) was BEN AINSLIE RACING. Yes, I witnessed an Olympic Gold medallist sailing and didn't realise.

I had no idea at the time what happened in the races - but apparently the US Coutts did not finish the first race, meaning Sweden gained a victory, but then of course we lost against the US Spithill, typical. (Spithill won the whole series in the end!)

Though we lost the quarterfinal race, we dominated the fleet races, which is where all of the boats take part. News I'm sure my Dad will be happy about - I just wish he was here watching it with me!
