Superbowl Sunday.

When it comes to sport, now is a great time to be living in San Francisco.
As well as the Giants becoming the champions of the World Series last October (read about the Giants Parade here), the San Francisco 49er's made it to the Superbowl, the final of the NFL (National Football League).
Coming from a country where 'football' means something entirely different, I didn't realise the full extent of how much the Americans love their football - watching the Superbowl is like watching the FA Cup Final, or quite possibly even bigger.

The Niners played the Baltimore Ravens in the Superbowl XLVII (47th) at the Superdome in New Orleans.

Armed with tortilla chips and dip, I attempted to understand what was going on - being at a college without a football team of its own, I don't have much knowledge of the game at all.

But as my friend Lauren said, 'It's not about the football. It's about Beyonce, commercials and the Puppy Bowl.'

And she was quite right! The Puppy Bowl was amazing - shown before the kickoff, it's basically a puppy version of the Superbowl, with kittens at the half-time show and hedgehogs as cheerleaders. Too cute for words.

After Alicia Keys sung the National Anthem the game began, but this being America, the ratio of game to 'commercials' is about 50:50. The commercials are really important apparently - companies pay a fortune to advertise during the Superbowl.

After more of the game (49s down, blah blah), the half-time show began - as always, Beyonce put on a great show! Much better than Madonna last year, and Destiny's Child made a surprise comeback!

Game was suspended after a 'power outage' in the stadium, which threw off the Ravens and San Francisco managed to pull back some points.

In the end though, the 49er's were defeated 31-34 by the Ravens, in a game that lasted nearly FIVE hours. Even though our team lost, it was still cool to experience the madness of the Superbowl!
