Practically Sleepless in Seattle.

Early flights should just not exist. It's not an enjoyable experience having to rush through airport security with minutes to spare due to stupid early-morning public transport confusion.

After a particularly painful start to our 7am flight, myself and my travelling companion Josh arrived in Seattle...
and promptly had our first Starbucks.

As Seattle is the home of Starbucks, I could tell it was going to be one of many! With the chilly weather up here in Washington State (California it is not), it's easy to see why coffee is so popular.

We're staying at the City Hostel while we we're here in Seattle - it was recently voted the best hostel in the US for 2012, and it's easy to see why! It's in the very chic Belltown neighbourhood, which is sandwiched between the Space Needle, Seattle's most famous landmark, and downtown.

The hostel itself is really cool - it has an in-house cinema, library and hot tub! It's just a shame I forgot my bikini. And the fact that it rains constantly. If Chicago is the Windy City, Seattle is definitely the Rainy City! Although funnily enough that nickname hasn't caught on just yet.

Just look at the view from our window!

After dropping our bags (and it still only being 10am), we walked to the Seattle Center, home of the Space Needle - it wasn't nearly as impressive as I thought it would be!

We decided to avoid the $19 ride to the top and instead went next door to the Experience Music Project.
The Pacific Northwest has a long music history, and is the birthplace of both Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. The EMP had great exhibitions on both!

The EMP is also currently showing an interesting photography exhibition featuring The Rolling Stones and a stage costume exhibition showing leather jackets.

This one was Michael Jackson's!

Mixing lab.

Afterwards we strolled up 4th Avenue, one of Seattle's main streets, and grabbed lunch at a neighbourhood restauant, the Fishcake Factory. I had some amazing Indian Curry Salmon fishcakes!

After lunch it began to rain heavily, so we made a quick stop in the Seattle Central Library, known for its unusual architectural design.

Our real destination, though, was the Columbia Center.
Although it was a pretty grey day, we got some amazing views of the city and Eliot Bay up to Puget Sound!

After a full day in Seattle, and only 3 hours sleep, we decided to call it a night so we could be fully prepared for what tomorrow would bring!

  1. That is a hostel?! Love that it has a library in it! Also, I would definitely be drooling over the leather jackets. Impressed how much you did with 3 hours sleep...good job you were in the land of coffee eh? Can't wait to hear more x
